The Complete Barrel char in a jar kit for aging and flavoring liquor and spirits. This kit contains both 64 oz and 32 oz jars so that you can age either a 1.75 liter or conventional .750 liter bottle of liquor or both simultaneously. You have the flexibility of aging more than one batch at a time as well as using conventionally sized liquor bottle amounts. The kit comes with many types of wood, these include:

Charred white American oak (to simulate the insides of a bourbon barrel)
medium plus toasted French oak (for darker colors and deeper flavors)
sugar maple
cherry
Yellow Birch.

The Yellow Birch is a new 2017 flavor that adds some vanilla bean and burnt caramel notes.
Maple adds a maple candy note to things.

With the exception of the Oak , all of our wood is hand harvested by our etsy production partner NaturesPickings in the USA and we oven toast the wood in a commercial kitchen. The wood was never treated with any chemicals and it was cut and split using hand tools.

Included with the kit is the same washed activated charcoal that is used at commercial distilleries for filtering out their product, filter papers, and a filter funnel to help you with your final product.

The kit also contains sample bottles for comparing the original liquor and the finished product, stainless tongs for removing the wood from the jar, some funnels and a ladle for transferring your product.

This is a very complete kit that offers flavors that are not obtainable by a typical oak barrel kit. An oak barrel kit will only supply one flavor, oak, (usually charred white oak) and some toasted oak flavors.

This kit also works with the same process that distillers use. Unlike other kits, there is no essence (artificial flavor) or food coloring (caramel coloring). The wood does the work.

There are enough consumables in this kit to flavor approximately 2-3 conventional (750ml) bottles of liquor per flavor of wood if you don't count the barrel char oak. If you use every flavor, you should get 8-12 bottles of flavored liquor before the consumables run out. It's probably between 4-6 1.75 liter bottles of flavored or aged liquor.

Beware of many kits that help you "make" an alcoholic spirit. US laws prohibit home production of strong alcoholic spirits (beer and wine are not considered strong) as this would involve distilling; which is illegal without a license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF). Many of the so called "make your own" kits actually just contain a bottle of artificial flavoring which the user must add to some kind of store bought vodka or grain neutral spirit and yield product with an artificial taste. Real aging gets its flavor, color and aroma from the wood of the barrel.

With this kit, you are getting all the high end types of wood used in the most expensive spirits. The user of this kit will be able to take an inexpensive spirit of their choice, (like whiskey, rum or tequila) and age it in a way that is similar to the way large scale manufacturers do. You will get the dark color and complex flavors that real barrel aging will produce.
